Haplotype

Collaboration with veterinarians and/or owners

More than 500 different haplotypes for the equine MCH have been described. In order to provide stem cells that are compatible between donor and recipient horses, we need to know which equine MHC haplotypes  are the most frequent among the main breeds in Spain (Pura Raza Español, Pura Raza Árabe, Pura Raza Hispano-árabe and Pura Sangre Lusitano). So far, we have analysed the haplotypes of more than 250 horses. However, we need to run more samples to reach a representative number that will allow establishing the haplotypic frequencies in the Spanish territory. Therefore, we ask for the collaboration of veterinarians and/or horse owners to submit samples from their animals. We offer free of charge analysis of the haplotype of horses, requiring only 1 ml blood sample. With this sample, our team will analyse the DNA, determine the haplotype of the horse (and therefore of its MSCs) and inform the owner of the results obtained by generating a certificate.

We facilitate the collection of samples

LAGENBIO offers the possibility for our team of vets to travel free of charge to the stud farms, with prior authorisation from the owner, to take the blood samples. This procedure can also be carried out by another veterinarian according to the preference of the horse owner. In all cases, blood samples must be frozen (-20°C) immediately after collection. Our group will cover the costs for the collection and shipping of the samples by a transport agency. To participate in our project, please contact us by e-mail:
